She was leaving. We were ready, really. Something about it, though, was painful. It's that place in us that leads us to hold on - because, although it isn't the right fit, we don't want to be alone. And it hurts in the quiet moments, when we've let it go, and we get to sit in the sorrow that was with us before she arrived.

I started writing this one the night before she left. It became a soundtrack for the tender places in me for the winter months to come, and the gateway to a three part composition that was the spark of this whole recording project... 2013
